Iowa is a Midwestern United States state. Iowa is also known as "Blackhawk State", in honor of the Indian warrior named the same. Iowa's population was 3,107,126. Des Moines and Cedar Rapids are some of the major cities. Davenport is another. Highway I-74 is one of Iowa's major highways. The Iowa Department of Transportation is the state's transportation department. IOWADOT is its name. Here are some of the attractions and sights that can be found in the state. Five world-famous Covered Bridges are still standing in Madison County. They are on the National Register of Historic Places. These bridges include the Roseman Bridge Holliwell Bridge, Cedar Bridge, and Cutler Donahow Bridge. Madison County Board of Supervisors ordered that the bridges be covered to preserve the large flooring timbers. These were more costly to replace than the lumber used for the roof and sides of the bridges.
