China's Side-by-Side Double-Decker Auto Transporter

China's Side-by-Side Double-Decker Auto Transporter

Let me give you an example: Imagine you need to transport a large load of cars over a thousand miles in one trip. Let's say that the amount of cars you need to transport exceeds the truck's capacity. What would you do? What would you do to accomplish this task? If you didn't want to transport your shipment on multiple trucks, how would that work? China has a solution for the above car shipping problem: Build a dual-deck vehicle transporter that can carry cars side-by, up-and-down. This is a very unusual piece of heavy machinery.

However, it might not be the best answer. What is the reason? It has a very high center of gravity. This means that it wouldn't be easy for truck drivers to maneuver. A second reason is that it would literally cause damage to roads and other trucking infrastructure. An auto transporter such as this would not be allowed on U.S. highways. A fully loaded truck or trailer cannot exceed 80,000 pounds. Truck drivers are often required to leave an empty spot on their trailers in order to comply with the weight restrictions. The Chinese trucking industry has apparently not caught up with ours in this regard.
